B-Raf Proto-Oncogene, also known as BRAF is a member of the raf/milfamily of serine/threonine protein kinases. BRAF participates in regulating theMAP kinase/ERKs signaling pathway, which eventually have an effect on celldivision, differentiation, and secretion. Mutations in BRAF have beenassociated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome, which is a disease characterizedby heart defects, mental retardation and a distinctive facial appearance. Inaddition, mutations in BRAF have also been associated with different cancers, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, colorectal cancer, malignant melanoma, thyroidcarcinoma, non-small cell lung carcinoma, as well as adenocarcinoma of lung.
