Cell Growth Regulator with EF-Hand Domain 1, also known as CGREF1 is asecreted calcium ion binding protein.CGREF1 includes two EF-hand domains & both EF-hands are essentialfor function. CGREF1 is most likely digested extracellularly by an unfamiliarserine protease generating extremely hydrophobic bioactive peptides. CGREF1 mediates cell-celladhesion in a calcium-dependent manner. In addition, CGREF1 is capable toinhibit growth in more than a few cell lines.
