HPSEalso known as Heparanase-1 is an enzyme which cleaves heparan sulfateproteoglycans to allow cell movement through changing the extracellular matrix.In fact, the Heparan sulfate proteoglycans are major components of the basementmembrane and extracellular matrix. In addition, this cleavage can releasebioactive molecules from the extracellular matrix. HPSE is significant for theoverall degradation of proteins in lysosomes.
