Ubiquitin-conjugatingenzyme E2 R2 (UBE2R2) is a member of the ubiquitin-conjugatingenzyme family. Protein kinase CK2 is a ubiquitous and pleiotropic Ser/Thrprotein kinase implicated in cell growth and transformation. This protein is a protein similar to theE2 ubiquitin conjugating enzymeUBC3/CDC34. Studies proposethat CK2-dependent phosphorylation of this ubiquitin-conjugating enzymefunctions by regulating beta-TrCPsubstrate recognition and induces itsinteraction with beta-TrCP, enhancing beta-catenin degradation. UBE2R2 receives ubiquitin from the E1complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. In vitro catalyzesmonoubiquitination and 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitination. UBE2R2 may be implicatedin degradation of katenin. Among the diseases associated with UBE2R2 are cblc, and herpes simplex.
